An Independence teenager was killed Friday night in a car crash involving a semi. It happened around 10:00 Friday night along Highway 169, about two miles south of Welda. According to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, a semi with two occupants drove off the highway, went through the grass and hit a concrete culvert. The driver of the semi then overcorrected back onto the highway and hit an oncoming car. Both the semi and the car ended up in a ditch.
A Holton man was sent to a hospital Saturday evening after being hit by a car. It happened around 5:45 p.m. just east of Holton at K-16 Highway. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said Sean Coop, 22, was riding a skateboard in the middle of the westbound lane with his Dalmatian. A car, driving west, then came over the hill and hit Coop and his dog.
A Holton woman is free on bond, after her arrest on two counts, each, of aggravated assault and domestic battery. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Erica Nicole Miller was arrested on the charges, on Thursday. She was booked into the Jackson County Jail and later released on $10,000 bond.
Two people were arrested Thursday after Topeka found drugs and weapons in a vehicle during a traffic stop. Police stopped a silver Toyota Camry for traffic violations in the area of SW Huntoon and Clay just before 8 p.m.
The Topeka Police Department is investigating a robbery at a Kwik Shop in southeast Topeka. Police are actively searching for two male suspects. They were armed and one was wearing a black hoodie with gloves, according to police. The robbery occurred just before 5:15 a.m. on Thursday near SW 37th St. and SE Humboldt St, according to Shawnee County Dispatch.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon. Officers were called to an area near 27th and Quindaro around 3 p.m. to investigate a shooting. Two people were found with gunshot wounds. One person was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. The other reportedly sustained minor injuries.

A man has been charged with dragging an 86-year-old man to death in Kansas City, Kansas, as he tried to stop his pickup truck from being stolen. Thirty-one-year-old Dominic McGee was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder and theft in the Nov. 29 death of Frank Davila. Bond is set at $500,000. McGee is jailed in Jackson County, Missouri.
Olathe, Kansas, police are investigating a shooting early Tuesday. Police said they were called at 1:48 a.m. on a reported disturbance on Santa Ana Lane in the Santa Barbara Estates. Officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the victim is hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies 58-year-old Raymond Urbanek, from Lawrence, as the driver killed in a crash Sunday night. A reports says Urbanek was driving on I-70, near Rice Road in Topeka, when he left the roadway and rolled his truck. The crash was reported shortly before 7 p.m.

Authorities in Overland Park are investigating the cause of a fatal fire Monday afternoon. Overland Park and Lenexa Fire crews were called to the Overland Towers apartment complex in the 8500 block of Farley around 2 p.m. A fire was located in an apartment on the 2nd floor of that building. Inside that apartment, a woman was found deceased.
A driver was killed after being thrown from his car during a crash in Rush County, Kansas. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 51-year-old Darin Stiles, from Hays, hit a patch of gravel on the shoulder of K-4, east of La Crosse. Stiles overcorrected, went into a ditch, and overturned in a field. A report say Stiles was ejected from his car during the crash.
Ottawa County: A man was killed when his car went off the highway where a bridge had been removed. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 28-year-old Ricky Joe West II was driving east on Highway 10 at the Spring River Bridge about four miles east of Miami.
